The club was founded in 1934 as the Michigan Trout Club, with ten original members. By 1953 the interests of the club had broadened to include the sport of shooting. The original name, Michigan Trout Club, was then changed to the Kalamazoo Rod & Gun Club, and now our membership is over 1,500 strong!

In 1957, the site of the current clubhouse was purchased, and construction of the facilities was started early that summer. Regular use by archers, rifle, and pistol shooters started the following winter and continues to the present. Over the years the Club has expanded ranges, activities, and members. The complete history of the club is covered in the About section of our website. Today our Club is very active in the
community. We encourage the local Police

Departments to use our ranges to facilitate their firearms training. Besides many shooting sports, activities, and competitions, we have programs that support our troops in action, participate in the area’s Pheasants Forever youth outreach programs,  local high school trap shooting teams, and swap meets, and partner with major organizations that support and encourage the shooting sports.

Please browse and enjoy the club website and note all the opportunities this Club offers. This Club is made up of men and women who enjoy all forms of shooting sports and fishing. If you’re looking for a group of like minded people this is the place for you.

Gate System

Our Gate

It has been pointed out that our Handbook does not explain in detail the proper method to enter and exit our range.  As you pull up to the gate and gate reader hold your gate card up to the reader and wait for the gate to open.  Once the gate is fully open drive through and then stop about 15’ from the gate for it to close.  We ask that you wait for the gate to close so that non-members don’t try to tailgate in to the range.  The process is similar when you leave the range.  Pull up to the gate and gate reader, hold your gate card up to the reader and wait for the gate to open.  Once the gate has opened fully drive through the gate and then stop 15’ from the gate for it to close.  This keeps non-members from trying to get in as you are pulling out.  It is VERY important that you swipe your gate card IN and OUT, even if you are following someone in either direction.
